The Environmental Management Bureau has issued a letter on 31 March 2014 to the Bureau of Customs regarding the importation of Lead Acid Batteries. The letter can be seen here.
It is clarified in this letter that importation of Lead Acid batteries is not covered under the Chemical Control Order of Lead and Lead Compounds (DAO 2013-24). As such, importers may coordinate and secure the necessary permit for these batteries from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Department of Health (DOH).
However, this does not exempt the company from complying with its proper disposal as stipulated in Department Administrative Order 2013-22, “Revised Procedures and Standards for the Management of Hazardous Wastes (Revising DAO 2004-36)”.
